Estela is 12 years old and hopes to begin adult life away from her family, as soon as possible. To make it happen, she plans to run away with her lover, a young police school student. Their plans fall apart due to a drug scandal, in which Estela's family is involved.
"Heli" is Amat Escalante's third feature film. In his movie, the director takes a look at the problems that consume contemporary Mexico, corruption, violence, terror spread by drug cartels. The film caused a sensation at the Cannes Film Festival and Escalante was called Mexican Tarantino.
