receiving a number of movie and theater best debut awards. In Grzegorz Pacek’s debut "Środa
czwartek rano" she was awarded the Prize for the Acting Debut at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia (2007). She also received the award for her acting debut in the main female role at the Koszalin Film Debut Festival "Młodzi i Film " (2008). For her Television Theatre debut in the play, “Doctor Halina” directed by Marcin Wrona she was awarded at the festival Two Theatres (2009). Her talent found recognition abroad. She played among others in the German film “The lost time” directed by Anna Justice, in the American fantasy mega-production “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” by Tommy Wirkola and the French-Polish Paweł Pawlikowski's thriller "The Woman in the Fifth", in which she partnered Ethan Hawke. Her role in the courageous and moving Polish-French production “Sponsoring” directed by Małgorzata Szumowska, in which she starred next to Juliette Binoche, was awarded, among others, at the 37th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. It also obtained the Polish Film Academy Award - Polish Eagles 2013. She starred in the Korean production “Way Back Home” next to Jeon Do-yeon, the winner of the Golden Palm in Cannes (2007). She appeared in the Oscar-winning “Ida” by Paweł Pawlikowski. To Polish viewers Joanna Kulig is also known for such films as DISCO POLO, MILION DOLARÓW, NIEULOTNE or FACET (NIE) POTRZEBNY OD ZARAZ as well as the series O MNIE SIĘ NIE MARTW, ZBRODNIA, CZAS HONORU, EKIPA or SZPILKI NA GIEWONCIE. In 2013, she played the title role in the musical spectacle PAMIĘTNIK PANI HANKI directed by Borys Lankosz, produced by TVP on the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jerzy Wasowski. Joanna Kulig is also a talented singer. At the age of 15 she won the “Szansa na sukces” contest, in which she sang Grzegorz Turnau’s song " Między ciszą a ciszą ". Joanna Kulig is a graduate of the Academy of Dramatic Arts in
Cracow (vocal and stage specialization). She has performed, among others, on the stage of the Old Theatre and Teatr Stu in Krakow as well as Oh Theatre in Warsaw. Currently she is with the
Athenaeum Theatre in Warsaw.
