Leszek Możdżer is one of the greatest Polish jazz musicians, a world class pianist, not afraid to explore the music who developed his own musical language. He was born on 23 March 1971 in Gdańsk. He started playing the piano since the age of five and in 1996 he graduated from the Gdańk Academy of Music. He turned to jazz music when he was in the final grade of the high school. He started his activity as a musician in Emil Kowalski’s band named “Miłość” as well as Zbigniew Namysłowski’s quartet. By now he has recorded a total number of 100 albums with various artists (including Tomasz Stańko, Janusz Muniak, Michał Urbaniak, Piotr Wojtasik, Adam Pierończyk, Henryk Misiewicz, Anna Maria Jopek, Phil Manzanera, David Gilmour), and many of those have become double platinum records. His most notable albums are “Chopin – impresje” (1994), “Makowicz vs Możdżer” (Carnegie Hall NYC, 2004), “The time” (Możdżer, Danielsson, Fresco, 2005) and “Komeda” (2011). Leszek Możdżer has also collaborated with Zbigniew Preisner, while his cooperation with Jan Kaczmarek resulted in some great recordings for 20th Century Fox and Mira Max (Academy Award winning score for “Finding Neverland”). He also composes music for documentaries: “PUB 700” and “Nienasycenie”, “Znieważona ziemia”, “Wszystkie kobiety Mateusza”. Leszek Możdżer is also involved in theatrical performances for e.g. the National Theater in Warsaw (“Śluby Panieńskie” by Aleksander Fredro, directed by Jan Englert), Music Theater in Gdynia (“A Mindsummer Night’s Dream”), and Capitol Music Theater (“Scat, czyli od pucybuta do ...”, “Śmierdź w górach”, “Operetka”). On 21 August 2010 Leszek Możdżer performed in Gdansk on three stages for 22 000 people in a project called Możdżer + together with: Naná Vasconcelos, Lars Danielsson, Zohar Fresco, John Scofield, Steve Swallow and Bill Stewart; Marcus Miller together with Alex Han and Louis Cato, Eddie Daniels and Charles Fox along with Polish musicians Motion Trio, Gaba Kulka and the AUKSO Chamber Orchestra led by Marek Moś.
