Magdalena Łazarkiewicz

Magdalena Łazarkiewicz studied cultural studies at the University of Wroclaw (1976). From 1977 till 1978, she was the director of Jaracz Theatre in Olsztyn. In 1982, she graduated from Radio and Television Department at the University of Silesia in Katowice. In the season 2005/2006, she was the artistic director of the Nowy Theatre PRAGA. Since 2006, she has been a lecturer at the Warsaw Film School.

Magdalena Łazarkiewicz directed many award-winning Polish productions. Her achievements include such films as \"Przez dotyk\" (1985, part of the film series \"Kronika wypadków miłosnych,\" her graduation picture, filmed at the Radio and Television Department of the University of Silesia in Katowice), \"Ostatni dzwonek\" (1989), \"Białe małżeństwo\" (1992, winner of the Warsaw Syrenka in the feature film category). She based her film \"Na koniec świata\" on Emile Zola’s novel, \"Therese Raquin\" (1999, starring Aleksandr Domogarow and Justyna Steczkowska). Her latest feature film, \"Maraton tańca\" (2010) is a comedy.

Łazarkiewicz also directs television series. Together with   her husband, Piotr Łazarkiewicz, she created a three-part miniseries \"Odjazd\" (1995), which addresses a difficult subject of people living in \"borderland\" of Mazury. Łazarkiewicz is also the co-creator of the series \"Ekipa\" (2007). Together with Kasia Adamik and Olga Chajdas, she worked as a director on the set of the TV series \"Głęboka Woda\" (2012), which received special honors at the Berlin Prix Europa, Gold Hugo in a category, \"Dramatic Series\" (Hugo Television Awards) and the Prix Italia in a category, \"Television - Fiction.\"

Magdalena Łazarkiewicz also wrote many plays, including \"Dom kobiet\" (1987), \"Piątek, dzień miłości\" (1989), \"Klimaty\" (1995), \"Gdy tańczyła Isadora\" (1998), \"Courage my mother\" (2002), \"Dotknięci\" (2002).

Her film credits also include documentaries, \"Cud\" (1984), \"Bez klucza. Portret Hanny Suchockiej \"(1993), and “Żwirowisko - ostatnia niedziela \" (1999).
