Mauricio was born in Mexico City and moved with his family to San Diego, California when he was eight. He studied Literature and the History of Religion, focusing on Myth and Mysticism at Reed College. The multi-lingual, multi-cultural filmmaker later moved to Poland to study film directing at the National Film School in Lodz. He received his Masters in Film from San Diego State University in 2007, where his thesis film, Cassandra, was nominated for a Student Academy Award. Most recently, he co-wrote, co-directed, and produced the supernatural feature film The Curse of Styria, (based on Sheridan Le Fanu's "Carmilla"), shot on location in Hungary. The film stars up-and-coming British ingénue Eleanor Tomlinson, Stephen Rea, along with Julia Pietrucha and Jacek Lenartowicz, from Poland.
