First 2017 Composition Contest Is Announced!

An original, one of a kind programme is the pinnacle of the Festival. Transatlantyk Instant Composition Contest™ (TICC) is a unique and prestigeous event – one of a kind simultaneous composition contest based on the idea of improvisation created synchronously to the image on the screen. The procedure is simple: first, all participants – ambitious young artists – watch backstage an unknown to them at that point film clip. Next, they instantly respond to it by performing on the piano their own created on the spot compositions to accompany the image on the screen – but this time, already on the scene, in front of the audience and the jury.
Before all this can happen, open auditions are the first stage of Transatlantyk Instant Composition Contest™. All registered participants are free to enter. Eventually, an international jury shall select 10 most creative musicians, who then will enter the final. In the previous years, among the jurors were such renowned figures from the film and music industry as: John Debney, Richard Gladstein, Marco Beltrami, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Roy Conli, Leszek Możdżer, Michael Phillips, and Jan A.P. Kaczmarek (an Oscar nominee for the film score to Finding Neverland, the founder and director of Transatlantyk Festival), among others.

Transatlantyk Instant Composition Contest (TICC) is one of the flagship projects of the Festival – a unique event based on the idea of spontaneous musical reaction to the image. It also requires from the participants a good command of the piano. The intention of the creator of the contest, Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, was to design TICC as an opportunity to develop composition skills of young composers, especially in terms of intuitive interaction with the image. Each and every finalist, right after performing their piece, gives a short interview on the stage. All in all, over several hundreds of young composers from six continents took part in previous editions of the contest. This one of a kind musical event will be held at the Nowy Theatre in Lodz between July 19-20. The award ceremony will be held during the Closing Night Gala of the Festival on July 21.
