New York of the1950s. Young Teresa works in a department store and dreams of becoming a photographer. One day, she meets Carol - an elegant middle - aged woman, burnt out by an unsatifactory loveless marriage. They start a passionate love affair and carefully try to hide it from the outside world. After all, their reality is rather conservative. But what would happen if the truth came to light?
This moving, visually enchanting picture draws on classic American drama films from the1950s and 1960s. "Carol" is a story about the feeling that defies the conventions of its epoch. It is a very intimate and spare film; sophisticated, but with a pinch of rebellion. The acting rivalry between Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara is the main strength of Todd Haynes’ drama. It comes as no surprise that both actresses are this year’s Academy Award nominees.
“Carol” will be shown on 25 February at 7 pm in Helios Sukcesja in Łódź. Tickets (PLN 16) are available in box offices and via www.helios.pl system reservation. The screening will open the film cycle which will last for the whole spring to announce PGNiG Transatlantyk Festival before its first Łódź edition (from 23 to 30 June 2016).
Next screenings will be announced soon.
